Photos from yesterday’s lolita meet up
These aren’t even half the photos I took. For all of these photos and a brief description of the day, please see my blog entry on it.
Location: Japantown, San Francisco, California.
Lolita pen pals!
Jumping on the lolita pen pal bandwagon, I just bought some super cute stationary and would really like a lolita pen pal. PM me if you’re interested! (My lolita style is sweet and sometimes classic)
My daily style
So awhile back someone asked me if I was a “lifestyle lolita”.
HAHAHAHA NO.
ONE, I don’t have NEARLY enough lolita items (3 JSKs, a skirt, one pair of shoes, 2 blouses. That’s it.) to even last me a week. Two, my job doesn’t allow me to dress in such a way, and anyway cleaning up blood and spit and sometimes vomit (god I hate when patients vomit - I have a phobia of it so I usually have to go have a panic attack in the break room) is SO NOT LOLI. Three, my interests are far far far too eclectic, as any of you who follow me probably have realised already.
So… what DO I wear day to day when not in lolita? (Well, at work I wear scrubs. But other than that.)
My style is very girly. It’s a little bit retro, a little bit fairy kei, a little bit Jem and the Holograms, and just a little bit gyaru inspired too (mostly himekaji, the casual version of hime gyaru).
MY STYLE INSPIRATIONS:

Forever 21, where I buy so many of my clothes, including what I am wearing today

Mana Starre, an online hime gyaru who sometimes dabbles in lolita and other gyaru styles. I read her blog all the time.

Betsey Johnson, even though the only stuff of hers I own is some jewellery

Lexi Bee, the Pink Queen!

Dita Von Teese - who ISN’T inspired by her?!

Katy Perry. Now, it should be mentioned that I don’t care for her music. Like at all. I am not a Katy Perry fan. I just really like her clothes.

Kitch and Lunie-chan! They’re my lolita idols, cos they’re so creative with their coords! Also I like their fairy kei and more casual styles.
Kreayshawn, semi-local (she’s from Oakland) lady rapper. (Her music is a guilty pleasure…) Once when I was at school in a style I called “Dark Fairy Kei” (it was fairy kei but in blacks instead of pastels, basically) a girl in my bio class with really hime-esque nails told me I reminded her, style-wise, of Kreayshawn. When I got home I looked her up and she’s been a staple in my style inspiration folder ever since!

Rockabilly fashion. I just really love retro 40s and 50s looks, and how rockabilly fashion in general is a flawless bland of classy and kitschy.

Lady Gaga! She was the first celebrity who inspired me to wear as crazy of clothes as I wanted, fuck what other people think of me!

Marie Antoinette. Well, her whole era in general, but she isn’t called the Queen of Fashion for nothing. It isn’t as big an inspiration as others on this list on what I wear, but it’s there.

The Misfits (from “Jem and the Holograms”) - not only were their songs better, their fashions were too! Well, I like 80s fashion in general. All the crazy colours and patterns. As you can tell, I’m very into the idea that “more is more”.
Nicki Minaj is another pop star I really like. A lot of people don’t like her but I really do, and I love her fashion sense.

AND SOME PHOTOS OF MYSELF AND THE TYPES OF THINGS I LIKE TO WEAR:
(note: I wear my glasses a lot, but in many of these pictures I am not. Also I’m disappointed none of these photos are of my red pants, even though I wear them a lot)

(I love this pic cos I’m photobombing and cos Chris is in his Dean cosplay)
(That last photo I just took like 10 minutes ago)
So I guess you can say I’m pretty femme most of the time.
Except at work when I’m in my scrubs with latex gloves covered in saliva and blood. SO KAWAII~!
I settled on this coord for the 27 July meetup. Pardon that I am not wearing make up in the photo, on the actual day I will have eyeshadow, foundation, eyeliner, lip gloss, and face stickers. (I chose this JSK over my other one only cos the other one has a spot on it that I need to figure out how to get out.)
Blouse - Fan+Friend
JSK - Bodyline
Shoes - Bodyline
Glasses - Betsey Johnson (Not really part of the coord as they’re my normal glasses but I get so many compliments on them because they have pink hearts on the sides and they totes work with lolita)
EVERYTHING ELSE - offbrand, found at vintage/thrift stores or Claires
My new petticoat is going to be ordered next week with my next paycheck, so I will have a more bell-shaped one instead of just my A-Line one to wear.
Thoughts? Advice?
Frillies! I have a question!
The reason I got into lolita fashion is because of its connection to historical fashions, particularly Victorian and Rococo.
But what about other eras? Regency? Edwardian? Baroque? Renaissance?! (If anyone can point me to Renaissance-inspired lolita I will love you forever and ever)
Help a fellow frill lover out - Does anyone know if such historically-inspired coords exist?
My birthday is in July and I’m trying to decide on a birthday present for myself. I’m more in favour of JSKs but I’m not opposed to an OP, they’re just usually more expensive.
I want something frivolous and fun but not too OTT, something that would look right at home in the Palace of Versailles (Since that’s where I intend to wear it) It doesn’t have to be mainly pink but it DOES have to at least have pink details, since I have baby pink shoes rather than white. (THEY DIDN’T HAVE WHITE ONES IN MY SIZE. DAMN MY SMALL FEETSIES)
Ideally my favourite one is dress number 3 but it’s also the most expensive. And I’m fond of the last one in general, but it’s the LEAST Rococo-looking of the bunch, as much as I do love it…
Wanna help me pick?

(Testing out a new coord. But my blouse hasn’t shipped yet so I’m using an older, less-frilly one, pooooo)
